Under Caesar's Sword

On 25 Aug 2008, Kanakalata’s village in Odisha’s Kandhamal district is attacked by a mob of men brandishing tridents and swords. She escapes into the forest with her husband and children as the mob, led by some of her own neighbors, burn down the Christian homes and church, and hack two men to death as they try to escape. Two days later, they return to salvage their belongings. A mob besieges them and forces her husband to convert to a Hindu. He refuses and pays a fatal price. They hoist him on a pole and lynch him while Kanaklata and her children watch helplessly, their cries falling on deaf ears.
